*SI Stand ins. Often used to just come in last minute and stand in for presenters.
There have been a few controversial hosts too including John Leslie and Richard Bacon. Earlier this year on 4 March, the BBC announced that they were searching for a new presenter to start in the summer of 2013. Nino Firetto Casting advertised the criteria and hundreds of young hopefuls stepped forward. The winner was eventually chosen after five weeks of competition, via a public vote and it is TV newcomer Lindsey Russell.
The 22-year-old is Blue Peter presenter number 36. She will join the current presenters Barney Harwood and Helen Skelton from September. Lindsey had only just graduated from the University of Bristol after a four-year French and drama course.
Lindsey said "I feel amazing. It's the best job in the world - you get to do incredible things. Right now it feels a little strange. I'm quite shaky."
About 20,000 people applied to be considered as the a new host.
