IS THIS THE FUTURE OF CASTINGS?
UK actor lands Les Mis role after recording song on iPhone
First it was Benedict Cumberbatch and now it is actor Eddie Redmayne who has landed a role in a major movie with help from an Iphone. Is this the ultimate in laziness? For both the director and the actor it seems the easy option. Why travel miles through traffic, to meet actor after actor and watch countless monologues when you can just watch their auditions from the comfort of your home?Eddie got the the role of Marius in Les Miserable thanks to a recording he made on his iPhone of himself singing 'Empty Chairs and Empty Tables'
British actor Eddie Redmayne has landed the role of Marius in 'Les Misérables'
In an interview Redmayne said: "Took the iPhone and recorded myself singing Marius’ song, 'Empty Chairs and Empty Tables'. I then sent it to my agent to show him that I enjoyed singing, and without me knowing he sent that on to the producer".

Les Misérables is showing at Cinema screens in the UK from 11 January 2013. This is not the first case of an audition over iPhone.
Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch has landed a role in the new Star Trek thanks to a video he made on his iPhone in the kitchen.
Unable to attend an audition for the part and unable to find someone to film his audition professionally, Cumberbatch grabbed his iPhone and recorded his own audition in a friend’s kitchen.
Director J.J. Abrams described Cumberbatch’s iPhone-recorded performance as “one of the most compelling audition readings I’d ever seen,” according to a New York Times report.
Although not confirmed it seems likely that Cumberbatch will play genetically-engineered tyrant Khan in the new film.
