This week casting news ...

(below is from the Sun newspaper and written by Gordon Smart, Showbiz Editor and published on 26th Feb 2013)

DOWNTON Abbey is introducing its first black character as part of a storyline about race relations in the 1920s.
The award-winning stately home drama is seeking an actor to play musician Jack Ross.
Casting notes were sent out to actors’ agents earlier this month. They describe Ross as “Male, 25-30. A musician (singer) at an exclusive club in the 20s.
“He’s black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma.”
Whoever lands the role should “ideally be able to sing brilliantly”. The notes add: “Overall he should be a very attractive man with a certain wow factor.” Jack Ross will play a key part in the fourth series of the hit TV saga alongside a string of other fresh faces.
Lady Mary Crawley gets a new love interest — dashing Lord Anthony Gillingham.
The character also helps the family with their money woes, so he could be a big hit with Mary’s father, the Earl of Grantham, played by Hugh Bonneville. In casting notes, the character is described as a “good looking, very charismatic” 35 to 45-year-old with a “perfect cut glass accent. He’s warm and charming, but also a strong man with morals.”
Another new character is a party-loving cad called Sir John Bullock who “must be able to act drunk”.
Filming on Downton is due to start on March 23.

MEANWHILE... (taken from the Daily Express)

Actor SIMON PEGG has brushed off Internet rumours suggesting director J.J. ABRAMS has cast him in the new STAR WARS film.

Reports suggested the funnyman, who portrays Scotty in Abrams' Star Trek movie franchise, was to reteam with the director as he took over the reigns of George Lucas' sci-fi empire for Star Wars: Episode VII - but Pegg insists industry gossips have it all wrong.
Taking to his Twitter.com blog to dismiss the casting claims, he writes, "No idea where this silly rumour about me attached to the new Star Wars film came from but I can confirm that it's absolute Bantha poodoo (not true)."
Official Star Wars casting news has yet to be released, but the original Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, confirmed last week (20Feb13) that he, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were all in talks to reprise their sci-fi heroes for the new installment

REGISTRATION DAY, MUSIC BOX, RADIO EXE

NINO FIIRETTO CASTING, MUSIC BOX & RADIO EXE

NINO FIRETTO CASTING OPEN DAY AT THE IMPERIAL EXETER

Things have been very busy for yours truly recently.  Gone are the days of sitting back in the comfy studios of Music Box off of London's Oxford Street and gazing over the running order of that day's show.  I seem to have my nose permanently buried in a computer these days. Either working on radio prep for my radio show on Radio Exe  or sorting through the latest castings on NinoFirettoCasting.com

We are going to do our first 'Registration Day' on the 23 of March (Saturday) at The Imperial in Exeter. We are going to be offering 'Free' registration and we will have a photographer on hand, Jonathan Wall, who will take your first head shot for Free too.  This is so that we can put forward more faces for 'Extras' castings.  Pass it on peeps, better still come along and say 'Hi'.
We'll be there from 11.30am till 4.30pm.  If you are coming along it may be an idea to bring some make-up with you and a hairbrush as we won't have a make-up artist on site with us.
On the day we will be offering a special price on 'Full Memberships' too.  So there's a lot of work to do.

The Radio Exe site be the way is HERE.  You can tune in weekdays from 10am till 2pm by clicking on the orange 'Listen Live' icon.  If I'm not there start humming before me.

So as promised here is another photo from the attic.  This one was one of my first ever Promo shots taken by John, a friend of mine.  It was never used but it was on the same reel of one that was. It was taken in October 1981 in Bristol, my home city for the launch of Radio West.  So... back to the other job...   Here then is the  flyer for the event (first draft)

SCARLETT MISSES OUT ON LES MIS

'I sang my little heart out!' Scarlett Johansson reveals her failed audition to get Anne Hathaway's Les Miserables role

FROM THE DAILY MAIL

When it comes to auditions, Hollywood normally likes to keep things behind-the-scene.
After all, its not good for a star's image to know they missed out on a leading role.
But Scarlett Johansson is refreshingly honest about her failed attempts to land a part in the hit musical Les Miserables.
'I sang my little heart out,' she told Broadway.com.

Anne Hathaway
Alternative Fantine? Scarlett Johansson, seen at her Cat On A Hot Tin Roof premiere left, revealed she auditioned for Anne Hathaway's Les Miserables role which has won her a host of awards including the Bafta

And she insisted she had no hint of any nerves about her audition.
'No, are you kidding? The jazz hands kid inside me was just over the moon!'
But sadly for Scarlett her audition did not go well.
'I auditioned with laryngitis,' she explained. 'I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis.'
The 28-year-old had been heavily rumoured to have wanted the part of Eponine alongside big names such as Taylor Swift.  However she explained that actually she was after the role as Fantine, which went to Anne Hathaway.

Winning role: Anne as Fantine with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean
Winning role: Anne as Fantine with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean

But with Hathaway tipped for a best supporting actress Oscar, Scarlett feels the role went to the right person.
'I think, looking at the film now, there's no possible way I ever could have topped that performance,' she admitted.
'It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be,' she said.
But despite her lack of success Scarlett enjoyed the experience - which reminded her of auditioning for a role as the young Cosette when she was a child.
'The audition itself brought back so many memories of auditioning and it was fun for me to revisit that,' she explained.
