Auditions for Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical.


The RSC is looking for boys and girls to play Matilda, Bruce, Lavender and their classmates for its production of Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, London. There is lots of singing involved, as well as acting and even more dancing!

All children must be between the ages of 8 and 13, and must be under 5’ tall.
Boys must have unbroken voices.
All children must live within the M25, as we would like them to live at home and attend their own schools.
However, for the roles of MATILDA and BRUCE only, we welcome children from further afield. The RSC assist with accommodation and tutoring where necessary.
For the role of Matilda, children must be under 4ft 4”.

The RSC is a committed equal opportunities employer with responsible child safeguarding practices in place.
All children must be available for the entire rehearsal and performance period, June 2012 to March 2013, and no holidays will be allowed during this period.
Parents must be able to bring their child into all rehearsals and performances.

DRAMA SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN

A recent report by (Manpower Studies for the Arts Council of England) suggested that just over 85% of working performers had been professionally trained. So if you're child is thinking of joining the arts and you are pretty sure you want to put your daughter on the stage Mrs Worthington?   We thought that we should start the week by highlighting three of the many drama schools around the UK.


Based in London is The Anna Fiorentini Theatre & Film School for 7 – 18 year olds.  It is a not for profit organisation and it has  a growing reputation within the performing arts industry.
There are four branches and children can attend classes on the weekend or midweek.  Parents are encouraged to participate in forums to discuss ideas and pose any questions.

Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools are a franchise with over 600 outlets in the UK.  They teach drama, dance and singing classes too.  The classes are for 4-6 year olds and 6 -18 years.  In line with other drama schools Stagecoach has its own agency where children are offered professional work. Their dance lessons, singing lessons and acting lessons are a vital part of their preparation towards gaining work in performing arts for children. Stagecoach also runs a teacher training course for the Associate Diploma in Performance Arts (ADPA).  The ADPA has been developed for teachers working with young people in part-time performing arts school.   For more details and your nearest school see  STAGECOACH


You can start them even younger.  It is great to be able to boost your childs confidence and get them ready for the 'big school'.  How about the Pyjama Drama Schools?  Founded in 2005 by Sarah Owen, a secondary school drama teacher who recognised the immense benefits that children derive from drama, movement, music and play.  Pyjama Drama has and is still expanding across the UK.
They run four differentiated classes; ‘Dewdrops’ who start at six months, ‘Raindrops’ who begin at around eighteen months, ‘Rainbows’ who stay with them until they start school and ‘Sunbeams’ who are children from age five to seven.
