CASTING CALL -

Casting call location:  Amersham Arms in New Cross
Date: 29 November 2011

Rehearsal: 6 December (could be amended)
Shoots: 17 and 18 December

Payment: Low/no/deferred basis.
Director: Dan Duran.

LaLacuna is a small collective of film crew talent, based in New Cross. Most of the team have film production related qualifications from illustrious London film schools including Goldsmith’s.
The team has already presented a short film at the Bradford International Film Festival which was screened before the UK première of Noah Baumbach's Greenburg.

Currently we are in preproduction for a short film called Town Of Figure Eight, a thirty-minute piece that comprises several interconnected short stories linked to an overall theme.
The film presents a series of stories about the inhabitants of the Town of Figure Eight. The stories are linked by the narrator, Scott, who sits in a train on a circuitous, figure eight, journey watching the lives and quotidian activities of others through a window.
When the train stops, a new story begins …
One of the tales that Scott sees is: ‘Lokomotiv’.
A disfigured teenage boy called Mickels sits in his bedroom and feels watched. His isolation is self-imposed but one night he is coaxed to come out – the viewer is asked to consider whether the involvement of the town is altruistic or self-interested.

2 breakdowns:
MALE 18/24 - any ethnicity
MICKELS is eighteen / nineteen. Tall, thin. Would be eternally boyish to the very end ...except the left side of his face is disfigured. He only has the one eye. The other has a shadow cast over it. Even in the sanctuary of his own room he feels watched; it is not a castle, it is a self made prison, and he is very, very reluctant to leave it. He loves the Russian football team Lokomotiv Moscow and is very good at boiling water on a wood burning stove.

MALE 18/24 - any ethnicity
PETE is also eighteen / nineteen, but is stronger; much more confidant than MICKELS,but still young and unsure of what the future could hold - but you would never know. With him, it's all about the jump, not the look. I think they call that the certainty of youth. He too loves football, not the unseeable Lokomotiv Moscow, but the local team. He loves the physicality of the doing, not the watching. He is of average height, around 5”9 and is sturdy, not stocky and looks nearly the man, not the boy.

MOUSTACHE MOCKUMENTARY

POSTED by Chris Turner
See Chris's website CHRIS TURNER

Inspired by the current month of Movember I am looking for fellow moustache growers and supporters of the Movember Charity Group.
The intention is to shoot a short 'Mockumentary' focusing on various individuals and how growing a moustache has improved their lives.
I want to make this as fun as possible and am welcome to your ideas and stories if you wish to convey them to my camera. Obviously it can all be completely fictional but the mood I wish to convey is a 'comical' man pride in this fuzzy facial friend.
Id like for you to be as comfortable infront of the camera as possible but you dont have to be an experienced actor so anyone is welcome to apply. The only rule is that you have to be growing a moustache and participating in Movember.
Im hoping to be able to send this to the charity as an idea for a promotional piece that they may be able to use on their website etc.
Please apply with (if possible) a picture of yourself or a link to your mo space.

Emails to be sent to chris@cjturner.com.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Benefits: Copy of film supplied, Showreel material, Regular updates about film's progress.

Monologue (F) from Bull Durham

Bull Durham
written by Ron Shelton

Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) opens the movie with an explaination of the church she belongs to.

Annie: I believe in the church of baseball. I've tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there's 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there's 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. (she sighs) But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. Y'see, there's no guilt in baseball, and it's never boring. (she giggles) Which makes it like sex. There's never been a ballplayer slept with me who didn't have the best year of his career. Making love is like hitting a baseball. You just gotta relax and concentrate. Besides, I'd never sleep with a player hitting under .250. Not unless he had a lot of RBIs and was a great glove man up the middle. Y'see, there's a certain amount of life wisdom I give these boys. I can expand their minds. Sometimes when I get a ballplayer alone, I'll just read Emily Dickenson or Walt Whitman to him. And the guys are so sweet, they always stay and listen. Of course, a guy'll listen to anything if he thinks it's foreplay. I make them feel confident, and they make me feel safe -- and pretty. 'Course what I give them lasts a lifetime. What they give me lasts a 142 games. Sometimes it seems like a bad trade. But bad trades are part of baseball. Who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for god's sake! It's a long season, and you gotta trust it. I've tried them all, I really have. And, the only church that feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the church of baseball.
