ACTOR WANTED For FELLSWOOP THEATRE

Bristol
FellSwoop Theatre are looking to cast a male actor in the ensemble driven adaptation of 'Belleville Rendez-vous' which has just returned from its sell-out run both at Edinburgh Fringe and its transfer to the Pleasance Theatre, London. Following this, Belleville is now touring a number of theatres between January 5th - 7th Jan and 22nd Jan - February 14th 2011. With availability needed for potentially more dates wk 27th Feb and wk 12th March.
Belleville was orginally devised by a cast of 12 and uses physical theatre, puppetry and live music. We are therefore looking for a performer who can contribute to a strong and imaginative devising team, and who displays ability and enthusiasm towards dance, mime and music. It would also be a bonus if you lived in Bristol.
However, if you do not consider yourself a movement-based performer, please do not let this deter you from auditioning. We are not interested in casting a trained dancer, our priority is to find someone who work well within our cast and the style of the piece and so we are looking for physical commitment and rhythm in the performance.

The audition will consist of a workshop on Saturday 3rd December at The Wardrobe Theatre 4.30-6pm. All those considering the role must be available to rehearse the week 16th-22nd December 2011, and 2-4th January 2012, and for the duration of the touring dates mentioned above.
The fee for the entire run would be £250, and in addition all travel and accommodation for the tour dates will be paid for. Plus any fundraising, workshops and profit will be divided by the cast.

For more information about Belleville Rendez-vous or FellSwoop Theatre check out our website (www.fellswooptheatre.com), and you can follow this link to watch a showreel from Belleville's first performance at the Warwick Arts Centre (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyDwhR5JGlQ)

If you are interested in auditioning please email Jesse Meadows at fellswooptheatre@gmail.com with your current CV.

Thank you!

Monologue (F) from Bull Durham

Bull Durham
written by Ron Shelton

Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) opens the movie with an explaination of the church she belongs to.

Annie: I believe in the church of baseball. I've tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there's 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there's 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. (she sighs) But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. Y'see, there's no guilt in baseball, and it's never boring. (she giggles) Which makes it like sex. There's never been a ballplayer slept with me who didn't have the best year of his career. Making love is like hitting a baseball. You just gotta relax and concentrate. Besides, I'd never sleep with a player hitting under .250. Not unless he had a lot of RBIs and was a great glove man up the middle. Y'see, there's a certain amount of life wisdom I give these boys. I can expand their minds. Sometimes when I get a ballplayer alone, I'll just read Emily Dickenson or Walt Whitman to him. And the guys are so sweet, they always stay and listen. Of course, a guy'll listen to anything if he thinks it's foreplay. I make them feel confident, and they make me feel safe -- and pretty. 'Course what I give them lasts a lifetime. What they give me lasts a 142 games. Sometimes it seems like a bad trade. But bad trades are part of baseball. Who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for god's sake! It's a long season, and you gotta trust it. I've tried them all, I really have. And, the only church that feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the church of baseball.
